Get to know Beacon Mental Health’s Facilities Manager, Ric Camposflores!

What do you like to do in your free time? I like to spend time with my family doing projects, movies, sports and just living the best possible life.

What’s your pet peeve? Well, I’m very detailed-oriented, so I like to make sure that everything I do is meaningful and done correctly the first time. So, I guess “rework” is my pet peeve.

Who do you look up to and why? My farther Richard Campos. He is and always will be my  real-life hero. He always led by example and made sure to take care of those around him and in the communities he lived in. My dad is a 28-year Army veteran who served in everything from The Gulf War to the war in Afghanistan as a Sergeant Major. He was the reason my two brothers and myself all served and retired from the Navy and Army branches. He showed us that loving your neighbor was not just a saying but an action that  gives you just as much back as you give. He has always been involved in helping his  communities stay strong through development projects and Church functions.

What’s your favorite Kansas City hangout or activity? I don’t have one favorite one, I really enjoy the fact that any day or time I can find something to do, sports, art museum, historic places. KC really has a unique number of diverse places to go to. This is why after I retired  from the Navy, we chose to make Kansas City our home and raise our kids here.

Are you involved in any local organizations or charities or hobbies? What are they and why do you enjoy this? I am the President of the Navy Chief Petty Officer’s association of Kansas City. I really enjoy being able to continue to help other leaders in the Navy take care of their Sailors and family. The Navy gave me so much, I only feel it is right to give back.

What does a perfect Saturday in Kansas City look like? Hanging out in our backyard patio by the pool with family and friends.

Tell us about an interesting brush with fame or amazing truth about yourself. While serving on active duty in the Navy for 23 years I was lucky enough to sail in every ocean and sea in the world. And it only took 13 deployments to do it, and I got paid to see them all. It was one of the most amazing things to see, how everything changes from one ocean/sea to another.

Do you have a favorite book or movie and why? The 1987 film “Predator”. I loved the 80’s  and this film had it all: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, Jesse Ventura, Elpida Carrillo and Kevin Hall to name a few of the actors. Plus, all the action! I can watch it least once a week. However, Aliens was a close second.
